Photos for 2007

In 2007 I worked in France from the middle of January to the middle of April, then again from the beginning of October to the end of the year at a university in Lyon, with plans to continue through to the second half of March 2008. In between my two visits to France I was in Tucson, Arizona, where I am normally resident, and in September I spent four days in Bogota, Colombia, plus a day travelling in each direction. Finally at the end of 2007 I spent Christmas in England.

During my various travels I took photographs with an old film camera (labelled FC), with the pictures later being scanned, a very cheap digital camera (DC1), and more recently a rather better digital camera (DC2). This is a record of my photographs for my friends for 2007, as well as for myself to help jog my memory at a later time.

Most of the FC pictures were scanned in groups of up to five in jpeg images to save time, but all DC1 and DC2 jpeg images contain one picture. The blocks of photographs are in chronological order, although the individual pictures in each block are not necessarily in order.

First we start with general picturers taken of Lyon with DC1 on January 27:

Then on March 10 I took a series of pictures with DC1 at the Parc de Gerland, which is near the university:

A bit later on March 24 I took a sundry collection of pictures of electric trains in Lyon, ducks in the Parc de Gerland and the Rhône and Saône confluence with DC1:

The 2006/2007 winter was bad for skiing, however, some late snow made for some excellent skiing on March 31 at the resort of Les Deux Alpes. This was my first time skiing for many years, and the first time I went any distance outside Lyon since arriving in January. The excursion necessitated taking a bus ride of three hours. Several of these pictures were taken near the summit of the resort at an altitude of over 3500 meters with DC1 (deuxalpes0xy.jpg) and FC (alpes1.jpg):

With the weather getting better and a seminar at the Observatoire de Lyon on dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, I took the chance on April 6 of taking some pictures there with DC1 (observatory0xy.jpg) and FC (obsx.jpg);

The following day, April 7 my office mate and I were taken out on an excursion by the person who organised my visit to Lyon. We visited Pérouges, which is a beautiful anciant village NE of Lyon in the direction of Geneva. Here are the pictures with DC1 (perouges0xy.jpg) and FC (prougesx.jpg):

Because of the nice weather, on my return to Lyon I took some more picture in the Parc de Gerland, and the Rhône/Saône confluence next to the park with DC1 (gerland0xy.jpg) and FC (glandx.jpg):

On Easter Sunday, April 8, after church I was invited to lunch at the Anglican's rectors house in a suburb of Lyon. Except for the last three, the pictures below are of the lunch in his garden. The last three pictures are of the Place Bellecour in Lyon. All taken with DC1:

On April 12 I flew back to Tucson, Arizona, then a week or two later I went on a hike and picnic with a group of people from a local church to the Santa Rita Mlountains south of Tucson. Here are some picture taken with FC:

Usually three times a year there is a star party at the Whipple Observatory south of Tucson, also in the Santa Rita Mountains. Weather permitting the partiers are held in the spring, fall and winter. Here are some picture taken with FC at around sunset in May:

At the end of June I spent a couple of days at a business meeting in Las Vegas, or rather at a golf resort on the end of town. Next to the club house were ponds with lots of ducks and geese, so here are some pictures with DC1 (lasvegas00x.jpg) and FC (lvegas1.jpg):

On September 7 I flew out to Bogota, Colombia, where I spent four days before flying back on September 12. The pictures here taken with FC are of the sights in Bogota, with the last few being of the flight back to Miami over the Caribbean:

About a week before I left Tucson at the end of September to return to France, I finished off some film by taking a couple of pictures of views out to the west from near my apartment at Valley View Apartments. The nearest car which is blue, was my 1991 Ford Festiva L, which I sold on September 28, the day I left for France. I moved out of my apartment a few days earlier. These two pictures are taken with FC:

Back in Lyon and armed with a much better digital camera, I wanted to get some pictures of autumn colours, as this was the first time for many years I was away from Tucson in the fall and could experience a real autumn. Unfortunately bad weather delayed me for several days, then also unfortunately, I left the date and time stamp on in the camera as they were when I got it, so both are wrong. The date is five days later than indicated and the time is around 8 or 9 hours behind, so the pictures taken here were in the afternoons of November 3, 4 and 5 by DC2. They are of the Parc de Gerland and the nearby river:

Except for the last two, the pictures here are of more general views of Lyon taken on November 17 and 18, but still with the incorrect date and time stamps. The last two pictures taken on November 25 are of the facility used by the Lyon Anglican Church (http://www.lyonchurch.org) at 92 rue de Créqui for the last 12 years. This day was the last day that services were held at this location. The time and date on the camera were at last set correctly and not stamped on the pictures. All pictures are with DC2:

I spent Christmas in England, and on Boxing Day, which is the day after Christmas in the UK, I went with one of my brother and his wife (John and Gabbie) to a party in Sandy, which is a town near Bedford north of London. At the party I met John's two daughters and their own children. The two babies born in late September are non-identical twins named Sophie (the one with less hair in the red dress) and Ella in all the pictures here. In HPIM0295 and HPIM0296 are me with the twins, HPIM0297 and HPIM0298 are the twins with their parents, Paul and Louisa my niece (the former has Paul's mother in the background), and HPIM0299 is the twins with their cousin, Shannon, who is the granddaughter through John's other daughter. All pictures are with DC2:

On December 31 I took the Eurostar back to Paris, then on January 2, 2008, I took the first six pictures in Paris, followed on January 3 day by two more at the Grande Arche de la Défense on a very dull day. On January 4 I went with a friend to Chartres and took five pictures of the very famous cathedral from various angles. Finally, on Sunday January 6 I took a picture of the Anglican Church in Versailles at Pont Colbert, and the rectory (last picture) next door. Of course this last set of pictures really belongs to an album for 2008, but they are part of the 2007/2008 Christmas and New Year holiday, so I am including them. All pictures are with DC2:
